Not a chance was he better than Rio.
Rio was the best defender in the world at his peak. Terry was nothing like that, ever.
Proper cunt to boot.

No he wasn't, terry wasn't world class, Rio was head & shouders above him at international level & was the better performer in the champions league, as good a club career terry had, at their peak Rio was better in every department bar goals scored.

Maybe flogging his england captains box to the highest bidder was a liberty too far

Re: James TOMKINS

Terry put himself beyond the pale with what he said to other players on the field of play. With the kick racism out of sport campaign taking place back then, and continuing, the FA had no choice but to eliminate him from national selection.

Re: James TOMKINS

With respect to the Terry and Ferdinand discussion I would say that at his peak Ferdinand was superior. However once Rio had deteriorated Terry was by far the best English centre back.
FA politics determined Terry should not be selected and I think that was the right move.

His positioning is not always what it needs to be We saw that against Chelsea.

Re: James Tomkins

like it or not John Terry is still way better than any of the current England centre halves but politics dictates you will never see him in an England shirt again , of course Tomkins should be in the squad but i don't think its the manager that picks it these days .

The standard of English centre backs has deteriorated.Tomkins by todays standards is well worth a place in the squad. at least.

Has been fantastic this season, Still believe Reid and Ogbonna our the first choice centre backs but he is running them close.

Re: James Tomkins

The only edge terry had over Rio was in the opposition penalty box at set plays, got a lot of goals for a centre half. Other then that, Rio had him in every department, pace, composure, playing out from the back, passing, reading the game.
like crow said Rio was a true world class centre half, for 4/5 seasons at Utd was probably the best in the world.

I've all ways said you need 4 good centre backs to get in the top 6. We have 4 good centre backs. My first choices would be Tomkins and Ogbonna. But there ain't a lot in it.

As much as I dislike Terry the person and though he is not what he used to be he is certainly no donkey. At his peak he was the best English centre back by some way.
